All ages are welcome - it will be lovely to see you !
Meet our Leadership team
Leadership Diaconate.
Our church is governed by a team of deacons. We also have a pastor, a pastoral care worker, an administrator, a fabric steward and a wonderful team of volunteers who keep everything going.
Pastor
Peter Jackson
Although fully retired in 2013 Peter has been re- tyred to serve as Pastor at Godalming Baptist Church. He was inducted in October 2022 having been the Moderator for 18 months. He is primarily responsible for the teaching ministry, on Sundays and in Home Groups alongside general pastoring and leading the team. Prior to being a Baptist Minister, he was a Primary School Teacher for 14 years. He is married to Chris and has 3 grown up sons and 9 grandchildren. He originates from near Manchester and declares he is on a mission to 'the South' encouraging people to 'talk proper.’ Peter is a thespian and loves acting and anything to do with theatre. He says he is NOT the Peter Jackson who directed 'The Hobbit' & 'Lord of the rings' but has directed a number of productions over the years in schools and church. He also likes walking, going to the gym, reading - and eating, being the self-appointed ‘eating deacon’ in his previous church!
Pastoral Care
Sally Pollard
Sally visits folk in their homes at times of illness, family difficulties, coping with work/home problems, coping with bereavement, depression, loneliness and visits those who are house bound. She also visits folk in Care homes, hospitals & cafes to get to know everyone in the fellowship better and to develop links with the local community.
Sally's main aim is to offer a confidential listening ear and to lovingly support folk through life's journey of joy and pain, showing love, acceptance, understanding and encouragement. With other wonderful members of the fellowship she organises for church folk and our community to have - ' Friendship ' lunches, Games afternoons, Art Space, & Life Issue seminars eg: anger, loneliness, bereavement and other subjects that affect us at different times. Sally also runs the library. A great resource to encourage and equip us on life's journey. She also does child care for her grandchildren which keeps her in touch with all ages.
Church Secretary, ARK & Deacon
Catherine Lawton
After retiring from a career in nursing, Catherine became our children and family’s worker for a period of 5 years. Catherine leads our Christian Toddler group ARK, during term time and continues with a primary school assembly monthly leading an ecumenical ‘open the book’ team. As church secretary she describes her role as one where ‘if you don’t know the answer, ask Catherine or put it in her pigeon hole’. Catherine is married to Jeff with 3 adult children and 3 grandchildren who she cares for regularly. Born in Surrey, apart from an 8-year foray into Hampshire, she feels well-travelled. Catherine loves folk of every age from babyhood to the elderly, singing in Rock choir, old black and white movies, and chocolate. She dislikes the dentist having made too many trips due to her very sweet tooth.
