What sort of Church are we?

A people who relate to God, with each other and the World
Peter Jackson

We are a lively and growing church, located in the centre of Godalming, just off the High Street. There has been a Baptist Church in Queen Street since the early 1900's, and a few of us have been in membership here for over 70 years! Over that time buildings have changed, congregations have varied, but we remain firmly rooted in the Christian faith, and still bring the word of God in a meaningful way to everyone.
Whilst we are proudly an independent church of the Baptist tradition, aligned with the Baptist Union through SEBA, we are increasingly intergenerational and international. Our vision is to be a safe Christian community where we are all accepted and valued by God and each other, no matter what! There is no pressure to conform, but rather a freedom to be ourselves.
We recognise that we are all on a journey, which can be hard and difficult at times. We want to help each other grow in our relationship with God, others and ourselves. We believe it is important to be real, and acknowledge the difficulties as well as the good things.
Ministering God’s love, justice and peace in tangible and relevant ways in our wider community and beyond is important. We have excellent facilities with numerous meeting rooms and a sports hall, allowing us to reach out into the community with events such as our fortnightly Friendship Lunch - please see our Activities page for more details.
We have a group of about ten adults with learning difficulties who, in harmony with ‘Count Everyone In’ are fully integrated, accepted and supported, and make an active and beneficial contribution to the life of the church.
Our foundational values and beliefs which determine why we do what we do, our priorities, how we spend our time, how we relate are more fully expressed in our ‘Culture of Grace' .
